This in an area of much history ...
I love Sussex County Delaware. Originally I was born, multigenerational and proud of the house, one of them, as they say "from here".
The first news of our family show we were here long before the Mayflower arrived in 1620, some of our ancestors were here in the early 1500's or earlier, if the records were only made all the family Bible, held that each family.
In this area, we were able to escape religious persecution in populatedEurope. This heritage has much to do with the name and character of our area. Many local ancestors fled Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man, when Henry IV deposed Richard II and the cleansing of political and religious left religionists in places outside the reach and care in England. I learned that there were many collectors and not just from farming or fishing hunting directions that read in the Bible.
Some of these people that the local farmers, forest worker level, grows wildvegetable pickers and eaters, herbalists, tanners, soap makers, hunters, and all have been missionaries in the field of what are now Lewes, Milton, Angola, Long Neck, Broadkill, Nassau, Cool Spring, Whiteville, Quakertown, and Red Mill Pond.
People prayed only to God, Christ, and only read the original writings, as they say, just ... This was all deadly illegal under British rule, with the exception of the license from the king. Others were burned, hanged, drawn, quartered, drowned and slowly tortured to death in another way and put in public today in terrible conditions.
I grew up in what is now Eagle Crest Aerodrome, on what is already known in the white farms, near Milton. I started school at Milton school then went to Lewes School and graduated 1967 from the School of Lewes. Since then I have in different areas, sometimes local call "Saltwater Sussex" lived and what I used to call the Henlopen Quadrant that sites in 25Miles from Cape Henlopen.
The Whites, Taylors, McIntire, potters, fishermen, were Maull, Brittingham, etc. from my mother's family and were or are from the early missionaries and teachers here, I know. Many of these early settlers mills and mill ponds, where (perhaps) the first America's manufacturing industry as an adjustment to the bark of oak, tannin in developing countries has been done. Making the construction of dams for the routing of the power flow, it was our first swelling of small streamsand springs in what has become the largest mill ponds. Red Mill Pond was a prime example of how Milton Pond, Millsboro Pond, and other smaller ones such as the Beaver Dam Pond and Saw Mill Pond, etc. As the mills were abandoned and burst dams, dropped many of these ponds and disappeared .
These "ordinary people", as is often called, was very simple and not tied to any king or religion, but God and the Bible in its original language and in the early years of German. The memories of meBibles written by hand, with pen and ink on Bibles in our family home, which is now Eagle Crest Road and Route One.
Route 1 by the way was the first on what is now America and connecting all the places of origin, even if at first it only makes sense, was on foot, then by mule and horse. Much later by car. There were many fords and bridges then as a road, the land of the south, to cross to the north, crossing the many streams, rivers and streams that fed the country to DelawareBay.
Cape Henlopen is the anchor point of Salt Water Sussex County, where he meets the Delaware Bay to Lewes and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. If you're in Cape Henlopen Point, you can change the color of the line edge, where the dark waters of the bay in front of the blue sea in a diagonal line that extends from the beach to the sea. The darkness of the water is rich in nutrients, so that mud, causing water to leak from the large swamp borders almostall of Delaware.
The great marsh is still one of the ecologically rich and varied world, live, many thousands of plants and animals. You have no native predators to speak. A wonderful book on most of these is Progger Marsh: A Life in Marsh, Tony Florio. Only in recent years, these countries WARRANTIES predators, wild dogs and cats of the tourists, visitors and reached new citizens in our great swamp, no more than budgetDomestic animals, these thousands of stray dogs and cats carry a deadly new addition to the land.
We here in salt Sussex, a conspicuous absence of venomous snakes. The first humans were clear that only live here all year around, (even if the Indians do not) have learned, especially over the long fertile and the great marsh. These were normal people in this country and all others that have come their admiration, respect and friendship. They loved and were loved byNative Americans who hunted and fished here for research. This character had known her as his kind, strong, brave and resourceful - and so have won the trust and admiration of the natives.
Because of the relatively large number of missionary settlers here, and the prosperity of the genius of all goods and trade have created services for indigenous peoples - along with the good will that has been appreciated by all ... It 'been a lot of peace among the local hunters and fishermenThese simple people.
This region was considered of great importance for the Dutch and English. The simple people tend to stay away from each other as a sign of independence and privacy. They have usually set to join the dangerous city, politically combative and disease ridden for generations after these cities here - how populated the area. In fact, there were a number of colonial cities, which are dead or burnt out by the natives - because of the unhealthyConditions and attitudes that prevailed. People simply recorded the facts. So we have many stories of places where no one was killed or died and those stories were written by people locally.
Lewes: This region has been strongly disputed by the Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and English. The first officially recorded settlement here on the beach was the Dutch or the owner of Patroon, established in collaboration with the Dutch navigator David Pietersen de Vries, wasSwanendael called and was established (1631) on the website of the City of Lewes. But within a year was destroyed by an attack by Native Americans. This attack notwithstanding, the Indians were generally friendly and willing to trade with the newcomers. And most importantly, the indigenous population, the rare, but has lived and hunted here during the season, the mosquitoes caught was well with the common people and not the settlers.
The Dutch West India Company, was organized in 1623,more interested in commerce on the river in the South, as Delaware was then known as the settlement (the north was the Hudson River, in the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam). Many Dutch people interested in the solution of the region make their services available to Sweden and colonized the area for that country. The most famous of these was Peter Minuit, governor of New Amsterdam (later New York) was. In 1637-1638 Minuit directed the colonizing expedition for the Swedes that organizedNew Sweden. Fort Christina was founded in 1638 on the grounds of Wilmington and was named in honor of the Queen of Sweden. The colony grew with the arrival of settlers Swedish, Finnish and Dutch.
The waters of the Delaware Bay are tributary and watershed runoff and all of the great marsh creeks, streams, rivers and wetlands in eastern Delaware and New Jersey, and waste water from the Delaware River flowing down from Pennsylvania and New York . Thus, the darkerThe waters of the Delaware Bay are filtered in this manner because of the particles and organic matter is the great marsh and wetlands. These darker waters then flow generally south along the Rehoboth, Dewey, the beaches until the clear waters of the Indian River and Bay pushing out the Indian River Inlet power of the dark waters of the coast and the sea. Thus the sea water at the beaches south of Indian River Inlet tends to be much clearer than in the north of the bay.
Lewes isknown as the first city in the first state, because of this Dutch settlement, though not survive. Lewes was the first town settled in Delaware and Delaware was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution - hence the title we are proud to announce in Lewes - the first city in the first State exam. Lewes was first settled by the Dutch and Swedish. There are numerous books on the history of Lewes in the local library, maybe even two dozen different historical andfunny books about this beautiful city. Everyone has a different version of history to some extent. Amazon.com shows more than a hundred.
Lewes has one of the historically sensitive and aware of the city was in the area. Some people still call from another old name Lewes Lewes Towne. Some of our visitors have nicknamed it Williamsburg North with a little wink and a smile to go with his love. We have a wonderful little historic downtown along Second Street, Pilot Town Road, Market Street, SavannahRoad and King's Highway. There are numerous shops, restaurants and even the famous King's Ice Cream shop on 2nd St. to entice our numerous walkers. Lewes is, more than any other city of our region a great place to walk around the city, such as small corner shops and craft, to discover the most beautiful in a historic building. In is not uncommon to see hundreds of people on the streets in Lewes, even in low season. In the spring, summer, andObject, is common, thousands of people and families slowly and see our old houses to see the shops, museums and panoramic views.
The port is a port of Lewes a landscape of deep water, the only one in eastern Sussex County. There are sailboats and larger boats moored along the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal from the outlet Roosevelt, at the northern end of Lewes for the canal bridge where the kings of the road and Savannah Road drawbridge to connect the cross and combine historic LewesLewes Beach.

There are some communities, Pilot Point, CapeShores, Port Lewes and the Delaware River and Bay Pilots Association along the Bay. The Cape Henlopen State Park was once Fort Miles the Army base. Fort Miles was set up between the First World War and the Second World War to protect the Delaware Bay shipping traffic from German U-boats. Now, thousands of acres of beach, dunes, wetlands and forests that stretch between Lewes and Rehoboth are all part of the park buildings and other military uses Beachy.
William Penn was well lovedEuropean and politically active adherant plain remained under the yoke of England, while secretly hidden their distaste for the religion of the king and meetings. Penn was convicted of various crimes were political prisoners and exiles living here really think that the common people already in residence with horrible and deadly and uncivilized Indians. The land of exile of Penn, named after Penn's woods or Pennsylvania was in deference to his social and politicalPopularity. In 1682 Duke moved to Lewes a right to Penn, the sea was the guarantee of a waterway route from his new colony of Pennsylvania. The three counties of Delaware was to ensure that the three lower counties (or regions, such as Penn called them) of Pennsylvania. The individual counties were New Castle, Kent (formerly St. Jones) and Sussex (formerly Hoorn Kill, also known as Whorekill and Deale) called. The Englishman of Maryland contested PennClaim to Delaware, and the border dispute is not fully resolved until 1750.
The inhabitants of the counties of Delaware were at first willing to "radicals are linked to the" politics and much of the Quaker colony of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia or their business, "resolved." They finally accepted the Penn charter of 1701 after provisions were added, the three lower counties the right to a separate assembly that since 1704. Delaware maintained quasi-autonomyuntil the American Revolution. The two colonies maintained strong ties, however, and two of the leading statesmen of the Delaware during the Revolution Thomas McKean and John Dickinson, were also important in the affairs Pennsylvania.
Rehoboth is the next historic town south of Lewes. Rehoboth Beach known as the summer capital of the nation because so many of the power elite in Washington DC on vacation and visit here. Rehoboth Beach, The Nation's Summer Capital has a different name and- Weekend Washington, a name is popular with the college crowd from George Washington University in downtown DC The traffic flow from Washington DC so heavy that it is not unusual for people from 4 to 8 hours to spend in any Friday or Saturday to drive the 100 miles from the city to our beach. Rehoboth was originally developed as a result, a place for Christian Camp Revivals come to renew where preachers and church members will always vote to God and to swim in the seafor baptisms and renewal of physical and mental health. They did not come during the mosquito season and for many years when they start to get more in the summer would head to toe coverings worn for reasons of modesty and protection from flies, mosquitoes and fog as swarms of mosquitoes.
We've come a focal point for students to DC for the beach and fun. Since these students aged many associate the highest echelons of government and that many consultants, and they continue to comeThe beach here in Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany. The universities of Washington DC for the bases under their training for the nation and made the world's social elite and leader for your attention. The Georgetown University Department of Government, in collaboration with the school summer training, offering students the unique opportunity to spend an exciting semester as an intern in the nation's capital, while living and studying on the campus of one of the oldest and the mostrenowned universities in the United States. GU is known for its rigorous standards, in particular at the Faculty of Law and School of Medicine. This pressure is constant for the summer sessions. These students are some of the most beautiful and famous doctors and lawyers in America. Almost 100%This OJ students leave the campus center on Friday after lunch and straight to Rehoboth and Dewey Beach. The party starts when you start the car, or in most cases, the Jeep or SUV.
George Washington University extends throughout downtown DC along Pennsylvania Avenue and the direction of Watergate. GW or GWU one of them is correct, is considered the place where the future leaders of our country are educated and interned found. The school is full of studentswhose parents rule and work on "The Hill", Capital Hill DCGW students are often among the first in the city and speed toward the beach to escape, especially Dewey Beach.
When the student handbook for the renowned American University in Washington said: There are many recreational areas along the coast, such as Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, Rehoboth Beach known locally as "the summer capital of the nation because of its popularity in Washington , DC residents. The summers are hot and humid inDelaware and the beach is the largest recreational area. American University is famed for the training of future leaders of the world. Many students contribute to their countries after graduating certain rule. For this reason among others, are the sitting President of the United States to enter your address at AU each June - no other school in the world can boast.
AU is a huge sprawling campus that meanders all over the DC area. These thousands of well-students connected by GWU, GU, AU and other schools in DC are expected above all to their country, lead, including our own, when they are not linked well enough should intern and then worked as a manager in one of the embassies, the European Union Parliament The International Chamber of Commerce, International Court of Justice, International Monetary Fund, the Organization of American States, Peace Corps, the World Bank, World Health Organization, World Intellectual Property OrganizationOrganization, World Trade Organization or the United Nations. So if you have any "kid" to see the beach in Rehoboth or Dewey - it's just possible that these "children", the countries taking and implementing decisions and to make the international news in a few years.
Dewey Beach is known for its motto "It 's one thing Dewey", "Just Dewey It", "Live is a beach", "Dewey - A Way of Life" and more. Dewey Beach is the primary place for the party well financed singles with fit bodies. Dewey is theHappy hunting ground for the experts of high pressure from the DC area. Many have pseudonyms that are used in Dewey, to protect their identity elsewhere. Some people start to live this summer in Dewey Dewey House at school and never stop. There are currently hosting Group, where most of the participants, guests started between 40 and 50 years and act as if they were still 20 - and always will be. There are more than two dozen party houses in Dewey on the web alone. This correspondsseveral hundred singles that most of their income in Dewey spend - and this can be significant.
Dewey Beach is known worldwide for its famous restaurant and Rusty Rudder Ruddertowne known. There is also the famous or infamous work properly Starboard, the rowdy Bottle and Cork, the Waterfront and the Lighthouse. Dewey's style of living is to party all night, get up early and run then go to the beach and sleep off the night before while tanning. Then maybe a little 'Volleyball, running a little 'and then checked for other "hard bodies" for someone to celebrate with the night hook-ups, and so it goes. The "professionals" are able, they think they are the hundreds of days during the study and then, after employment, usually in DC, trying to maintain the same average action only on weekends and relax during the week. There's a famous quote, is no longer legal to use ads to rent beach houses, 4 bedrooms - sleeps 50 "and the tenants try toRoute also that employment. The beds are often used for sleeping anyway, if not by chance. Do you have an idea of what might be "A Dewey Way of Life"?
Bethany Beach is located a few miles the highway Sea or the coastal road or Route One or Delaware Sea Shore Highway or whatever name you modify it next week. The ride from Dewey Beach is a pleasant and beautiful a few miles, but the two cities are worlds apart difference. Bethany Beach is "The Quiet Place", "TheFamily Resort "and" The Quiet Resort "and is a city in progress with little to do outside of the case. There is very little trade, and very easy to stay at home or in some cases going to the beach or the waterfront. Bethany Beach and South Bethany, just south of Delaware nestled between the Atlantic and the inland bays. Bethany Beach and South Bethany Beach on the Atlantic Ocean from Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, Delaware, and north of Fenwick Island,Delaware and Ocean City, Maryland. Each of these small coastal towns are a world different from each other.
Fenwick Island is the southernmost city in the state of Delaware and is located between the sea and the bay. Fenwick Island was taken in 1953 and is locally called "The Quiet Resort." This small town has its own unique quality, charm and small-town atmosphere preserved. The pristine beaches and bays offer a variety of recreational opportunitiesPlease even the most discerning traveler. The activities range from skiing to boating, sailing, water skiing, fishing trips. The water is the cleanest and clearest in the state. The Fenwick beaches are the widest and is the least used and the main activity outside of staying at home lying on the beach for the perfect tan. Come see how relaxing Fenwick Island may be for you and your family. Outdoor activities are backed up with friendly hometown service. FamilyMotels and restaurants offer the ultimate in comfort.
Do not forget some of the lesser known beaches of southern Delaware - the little hidden places that not even the people know a lot. These are all from the Delaware Bay, north of Lewes. You are in this order: Broadkill Beach and some call it the old name Broadkiln Beach, adjacent to the north of Slaughter Beach Prime Hook Beach and then Bowers Beach. These small beaches, each having a unique personality in his own nocommercial structures to nothing, and walkways very little rental market value of the property. The houses are mostly very modest older homes, but that is changing fast.
Broadkill Beach, where I have an office for several years, was originally just squatters who have no land, but it was small "country" is made pick overall parts of wood and fabric in the piles of junk staff of farmers who have spent time there. Broadkill Beach still has some incredibly uniqueand sometimes ugly homes scattered among the beautiful modern showcases. Gradually the old houses will be removed from the new owners and larger and usually spectacular homes in their place. Prices in Broadkill are less than half of Lewes, sometimes much less than half! There are no lifeguards, no beach cleaning, no town hall, no police, no mayor or government of any kind and few restrictions. This is a great fishing village. There are thousands of prehistoric Horse Shoe Crabsthat mate and die every year on beaches in summer, but the locals consider that keeps the urban
People away and they did.
Prime Hook Beach or the beach Primehook depending on which paper you use is much less expensive than Broadkill. There are far fewer modern homes there, but the trend has begun. Little by little larger, sometimes rough homes at Primehook is renewed. The houses on the bank Primehook were always much bigger and more beautiful than that of Broadkill. Many of them arenot removed, but one by one, is being restored.
Primehook Slaughter and Broadkill Beach and are all surrounded by huge barriers of wetlands behind them and between them. Fishermen can surf fish in the bay, but mostly it's just the view from these beaches that residents enjoy and the time constraints and lack of modern business lost. Slaughter Beach has its own volunteer fire department, which serves as a social focal point of the city. But above all it is onlygood neighbors and a relaxed life in these ancient beaches. If you want something different, you have half an hour or so to one of the small inland villages they visit.
Bowers Beach is a strange and wonderful place out. First, you can not come from south to north Bowers by car or on foot - back only by boat, if you go to many miles of sailing and vice versa. The channel is only a hundred meters wide, which divides the city, but the two parts of the city are far away -except for residents, the slide just get on a dirty and backward. Bowers, in a day in full summer
maybe six or seven tourists see in one day - but usually not so many.
Each beach as you move north of the bay has lower prices, the enjoyment of swimming, fishing less and less government regulation and constraints. Everyone has their lovers, and many people have a love or hate in response to a particular one of the beach. I love them all, each in a different wayHappy to help you place your utopia. Let us know if you are willing to choose!
